Obituary:

A respected educator and longtime resident of Melville, he died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2007, at his home. He was 92. Visiting at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home, 607 1st St., Melville, on Monday, Dec. 31, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Service at Melville Methodist Church at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Chapman. Interment in Presbyterian Cemetery, Bayou Current. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth McAdams Antie; children, Donald Alvin Antie and wife Judy, of Gulfport, Miss., and Charles Leslie Antie and wife Brenda, of Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Donald Antie Jr., Susie Bullock, Brian Antie, Betsy Saia and Jennifer Relle and their spouses; and eight great-grandchildren. He was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Bunkie. He was a graduate of Morrow High School, a 1938 graduate of Northwestern State University and a 1954 graduate of LSU. He served five years during World War II as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army. Mr. Pete was a career educator, teaching and serving as principal of Melville High School until 1976. He was a member of the American Legion for 62 years, a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America and was serving as alderman for the Melville Town Council. He was active in seeking grants and other funds for the improvement of the Melville community and was instrumental in the building of the Melville Civic Center, library and the Pete Antie Municipal Heliport, which was named in his honor. Mr. Pete and his wife Ruth were avid campers, touring the United States and Mexico until his death. Pallbearers will be Donald Antie Jr., Brian Antie, Reid Saia, Nicholas Relle, Robert Bullock and Joseph Nolan III. The family requests donations be made to the town of Melville, 516 Church St., Melville, LA 71353, for renovations to the library which received damage during Hurricane Katrina.

Obituary:

MELVILLE - Funeral services for Ruth McAdams Antie, 87, will be held Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., in the Melville Methodist Church, followed by interment in the Atchafalaya Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Bayou Current, La. Reverend Kenneth Chapman will conduct the services.

Mrs. Antie died Monday, August 24, 2009 at her residence.

Ruth Antie was a native and life-long resident of Melville area. She was the wife of Pete Antie, former principal of Melville High School and 5-term alderman. She was very proud of their two sons, Charles and Don, who both attained the rank of Eagle Scout and graduated from LSU. She devoted her entire life to being a supportive wife and mother and was very involved in community service. She was a charter member of the Melville Woman's Club and was the longest serving active member at her death. She served as president twice and spear-headed many committees during her 55 year tenure. Together, along with her husband, assisted in improving the town in many ways such as establishing a community center, a medical facility and a heliport to be used for medical emergencies.

Survivors include her sons, Donald Antie, of Gulfport, Miss. and wife, Judith Walker Antie, Charles Antie, of Baton Rouge and wife, Brenda Nolan Antie; her sisters, Marjorie McAdams Goings, of Baton Rouge; Doris McAdams Coburn, of Prairieville, her five grandchildren, Donald Antie, Jr., Susie Antie Bullock, Brian Antie, Betsy Antie Saia, and Jennnifer Antie Relle; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Pete Antie; her parents, Ira and Bertha Berger McAdams; her brothers, George McAdams, Ralph McAdams, Ira McAdams and her sister, Irma McAdams.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Nellie Devillier and her family for their care and devotion and all of the other caregivers and the staff of Heart of Hospice.

Visitation will be held in the Melville Methodist Church on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and will re-open Thursday, August 27, 2009, at 10 a.m. until time of service.
