Genealogy
I started researching my family about 26 years ago. Since then, I have researched many families and entered them into my database.
My most recent projects include transcribing local cemeteries in Louisiana. I want to involve as many family members as possible. I am looking for photos, documentation, personal stories, etc. If you can help, I would certainly appreciate the information. I don't want any ancestor to be forgotten. Help to tell their stories!

Ready to Find Your Roots?
Welcome! Are you ready to find your Roots? I am here to help you!
First, you need a place to store all of the information that you are going to be gathering. You can use online programs like Ancestry to enter all of your information, but I prefer to keep all of my genealogy on my computer with a genealogy program. You can always upload your genealogy later. I use Family Tree Maker. It is the top rated genealogy software, it is expensive, but well worth it.
After you have your software set up, it is time to get to know and use your software. Enter all of the information that you know. Start with yourself and your immediate family. At this time you can start importing your photos and documentation into the software. Play around with the reports and charts.
Now it is time to start researching your ancestors. You will go to many different websites and try to find all of the info that you can. Some websites are paid subscriptions, but there are some free and if you are lucky you will find other family members researching the same ancestors and you can share information. Networking is a big part of genealogy. Don't be scared to reach out and ask for information. You may even find a related family website and connect with extended family members. That is a wonderful thing!!!
